For those of you who have never seen a 1977-79 B body with a straight 6, here are some pics! I really wonder what or how many B cars came with this engine??

    250 Straight 6 <a href=250 Straight 6 1511000_941678479527_6894054099595421909_n" />

I know it looks like S*&# but one day I will pull it and make it look much better. I did remove the valve cover and paint it correct GM corporate blue but I dummied out and didn't use primer and you can see how its flaking off Mad

Hey thanks man. Its a cool and unique engine forsure and quite honestly it performs pretty decent. Has some pull off the line but not much else. It gets 22mpg easy.

I find that kinda neat how you find the no A/C heater box a rare thing or option. I would say 60% or more of the 1977-79 B cars still around where I live were built this way. The heater box you see in that pic is from a 1985 Caprice that I got from the yard.

I still have my original 1978 no A/C heater box if you would like it or trade? The only thing is tho how do you ship something like this.
I will take pics and upload for you tonight.

Oh yes, please post some pics of that. If it's in good condition, I'd be interested in it for sure!

Nice car I have had few 6s GM or otherwise and they are just as fun to drive as their v8 brethren.

Yepp sure did. I grabbed the heater control panel and this newer style heater box has better features than my old original one.
Never made sence to me how the original heater blower motor would be on always when the ignition was in run or acc position??

Like you noted, alot of Canadain B cars had no A/C option. Its funny because our summers in SW Ontario are humid and hot as hell!

    Right on and thanks!

I was alittle concerned when I was deciding between this Bel Air with the 250 6 and a 79 Impala 2dr with the 305 SBC in that the Bel Air would be a slug and really underpowered, such is not the case! It has great off idle torque.

You pulled the heater box out of a 85??
Do you know if that would work for my 77?
The blower is always on like you stated and doesn't work very well..

Hi there! It was either out of an 84, 85, 86 Caprice and from my understanding, yes a newer year heater box
assembly will fit your 77. The install is abit tight and requires partial lowering of the right side inner fender to clear. the only real reason I changed mine out is because my heater box to firewall seal was leaking.

I did read somewhere off some factory information and I recall reading that the coolant temp must be at a certian range before blower motor operation will commence. This kinda makes sence to me because I have two colant temp sensors on my engine, one for the overheat warning light and the other I assume for blower motor operation.

I do believe my blower motor coolant temp sensor is bad because when I had the original heater box setup the blower motor was always on regarless of how cold the engine was. Sorry if this dosent make any sence lol!

Yup, it's called "Astro Ventilation" or something like that. There's vents built into the package tray area to allow the air to flow through the passenger cabin and exit through the trunk.

These aren't the only cars that do this. Even my 82 Trans Am does this. Every Cutlass, Regal, Monte Carlo I've ever rode in is the same way. I think all GM cars of the 70s and 80s do this. If you have headers it's so much worse. I remember going to car shows with friends back in the day with my first '79 Caprice and they all would ask me if I had the heater on because their feet were on fire.
