the dreaded Comfortron Empty the dreaded Comfortron

    Post  Marx3 Fri Oct 02, 2015 4:37 am

So, I learn that the Comfortron A/C system in my 79 Caprice can be a bit of a problem child.
I want to know if the system seems to be defective ( as I am, kind of expeting from it ) or if it actually seems to work.

The system is dry, car sat for 10 years up untill recently, so obviously it will not blow icecold.
I can operate the function lever and make it defrost, go bi-level etc. The control unit seems to work, both vacuum and electrical. I can also change the temperature, but it will take some time before the temperature rises. I mean, when you slide the lever to heat on a car without A/C, it will blow warm air at once.
I read somewhere, that the heat valve out in the enginebay is often defective and wil cause all kinds of problems with the rest of the system. ?

I've only had one car with it and it worked without any troubles. Well, I'm assuming the heat worked as I never used it. The AC worked great though.

Hopefully B body sees this thread. He seems to be the most knowledgeable about these types of things.

I do feel the same about my Comfortron Question
At least I managed to get hold of an electrical wiring scheme....
actual problem is, the Blower only runs in "Def"-position....  I can not find the location of the Temp Heater switch (should be on the front of the right cylinder head?!?!?!?)
