I have a column shift steering column and will be updating my 85 Caprice with bucket seats. What columns are compatible to swap out for the proper look? I have a column from a 87 Cutlass and want to know if anyone knows if it will work. I know of a 79 Delta 88 that has factory buckets with console and column thats getting parted out. But its just expensive for the parts and of course I'm on a budget.

You dont have to change the steering column when going to a floor shifter, the floor shifter obviously bypasses the column shifter, with the shift linkage, same goes with the neutral safety switch and reverse lights, its all moved to the floor shifter. Only thing you could do is just pop the pin out in the column shifter to remove the lever. As for the steering columns, as far as i know they are pretty much the same from 77 to 90 just different options like tilt and in 1984 when the multistalk lever came out which moved the wiper switch to inside the column.
