Dual exhaust pre-made Empty Dual exhaust pre-made

Post  terry cronk Fri Jun 16, 2017 9:45 am

There was someone on here awhile back that said they saw a dual exhaust from an earlier Chevelle that fit our B-bodies.

I would like to know which set of 2.5 will work for my 79 and future dual exhaust. I have the aftermarket cross member.

The muffler guy I go to can make it, but the bends are not mandrel. I have a 383 being installed.

    Appreciate any info.

64-67 A body kits. I have one from Pypes I picked up cheap (scratch and dent) that I'm working on fitting. The tailpipes on this kit aren't a perfect match, but they look like they'll fit ok with a little coaxing.

Here's the article I got the idea from:

I think this is the pipes that are mentioned. I already have a set of 40 mufflers. All this is 2.5".

Years ago Super Chevy Mag did a Caprice build. They used a kit for a 70-72(?) Monte Carlo.
IIRC, everything was a direct fit but they had to fab the left rear hanger.

Was the headers mentioned in the article?

What have you used that worked well. Even if you had angled plugs?

    Thanks

these are the headers I'm running:

    https://m.summitracing.com/parts/hok-2451-2hkr

They are really close to the passenger side frame rail, so I might have to 'adjust' them a bit. I'm running trick flow heads with angled plugs and while these fit, I'm going to have to pull the headers to change spark plugs, but I got the headers for cheap, so I'll live with it.

GM A body headers usually fit ok, but there will be something that you'll have to clearance most likely. On my first Impala I had to remove the driver's side engine crossmember brace. I don't know if I have to do the same on this car yet, but I'll keep you posted.

Back in the day we used BlackJack hedders for 2nd Gen F bodys.  The fit was great.  Now-a-days Flowteck makes a set for our cars that fits well but I'm afraid I don't have a part number.

**EDIT** This might be them but I'm not 100% sure. The part number seems familiar.

I checked out the Flowtech site.

The 11500 is for Blazers and trucks.

The 11108(mid-length) is for our body style. Also 16 gauge tubes, equal length.

The 11100 is for our cars, but won't clear angle plug heads.

I have the angle plug heads. Also I can use the Accel shorty plugs #0416S-4 (pack of 4)
Looks like the 11108 is the way to go for me. 2.5 collector w/adapters.

I just found a set of Flowtech #11108 for $89.95/shipped on Ebay.     (flowtech wanted $150.00 + shipping).   They have been scratched a little, but in like new condition.  Ordered immediately.

Someone tried coating them with high temp/gray spray.  But other than that, ok!  I can fix that.

    We shall see.

I just received the 2 pipes for over the rear axle, mandrel bent.  2.5" made for 1964-77 Chevelle.  $120.00 shipped.

    That's by Performance-Curve.  # 6477Chevelle25Pipes. On Ebay.

My muffler guy said he could make them but would be creased down to 2-2.25" id.  So I made the decision to buy these.

We'll see how this goes next week when the exhaust is installed.

On the pypes kit I have, I had to cut the tailpipes in 3 places and weld them back together to fit properly. Granted, I'm not /overly/ enthusiastic about the kit, but I got it cheap, so oh well. The over axle arch would hit the spring or the control arm, or both. They look like they were bent for a car where the spring sits in front of the axle, like the 64-67, rather than on top of the axle like the later A and B bodies.

Dual exhaust pre-made Empty Dual pipes

Post  terry cronk Mon Aug 14, 2017 2:33 pm

As I and my muffler shop found out today the same issue.

The rear over the axles hit the upper control arms and the X-pipe hung too low.

So the muffler guy will make a complete set w/H pipe connecting the two 2.5 pipes. Over the axle.

    Starting this morning. $$$$$$$$.

I got the car back today. Sounds good and everything is fitted up snug and hidden.

Now to go to my transmission guy for a final adjustment on the cable and the governor. All under the warranty by him.

i have a complete flowmaster 3 inch kit that was Originally for 68-72 chevelle. only had to make a couple minor mods, like hangars and chopping a few pieces, but no re-welding of sections. its tucked up nice and i hardly ever scrape, even being lowered about 2 inches
