Well, I commited the act of purchase of the above crossmember.

What a heavy duty piece. By the looks it would be easily used for a turbo 350 also.

The difference in length is only 3/4 inch to the mounting bolt. And the bolt hole is slotted long ways.

    Another item to install.

Just got one. It's for a TH400, 200-4R, and of course my 700-R4 with the tailshaft transmount. It's quite a piece. I had the tailshaft trans mount 700-R4 in the red Caprice with a modified tubular crossmember with the stock exhaust, but it was weak. Hope to be setting in the engine and trans in the blue Caprice soon. The red one was crushed by a tree and the blue Caprice is the replacement, and it's a junkbox, so I'm gonna race it. 9C1 though.

(Wrote all this before I opened the pic)Figure I will post my results. I used a gforce crossmember nice heavy piece large c notches for exhaust. They also have a frame hollow pieces but my car is a pig and will stay a pig meaning heavy. I had g force crossmember installed when I upgraded my trans from a th350 to a th400. Also another tip...i had already swapped rear 7.5 rearend for a 94 caprice 8.5 rear. Had to have driveshaft shortened when I did the axle swap so when the transmission was swapped i only had to change a yoke saved some coin on getting driveshaft done again. Bummer is drive shaft will have to be made next year when I do a gear vendor. Lots of people give me grief over this choice but it has been a long term plan. I figure 6 speed close ratio should beat most electronic overdrive with lock up. Just want it to be as bullet proof as possible. My vote for crossmembers is GFORCE for the win.

Going to a Gear Vendor overdrive is nice.  But expensive.  Plus the angle change of the driveshaft is increased to wear Ujoints quick.

Choices are ours to salivate over. The Turbo 400 is a great tough transmission. If your running 3.42 axle I would stay with the 400.

Ya I love my new 400 trans even though it wines it sounds like the batmobile. So u would say no go for the gear vendor. I would think u joints and driveshaft angle shouldn't be a major road block. I have even contemplated taking car to gear vendor to do all to work to eliminate any and all boo boos that may come up along the way. I fully understand they are expensive but I can overlook that if it out weighs the cons. Splitting gears sounds like a lot of fun. Being able to downshift just out of overdrive would help alot with passing. My biggest complaint about a 3 speed is not enough gears on freeway. Example I'm doing 70 -75 on fwy if I punch it car will just run out 3rd. My switch is wired to kickdown properly just car is already too fast to shift down on it's own. And pulling down to second manually at speed is scary too cuz of the sprag cant load it too much at once or you brake it. That's 3.42 gear th400 and 28in tire. 3k at 65-70.

Its already sold (Thursda 8-20-20) But I have used a cross member from a 1996 Impala/Caprice, which also is a double hump, and allows you to use a real dual exhaust from a 96 Impala SS. However, the molunting to the frame of the 96 Impala SS crossmember is in a different location than the 77-90 cross member, and requires modification of the frame to accept it.
